Her name is Lily. She\u2019s seven. Nonverbal. Afraid of everyone but me. For five years, she hadn\u2019t let another soul near her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until he showed up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It started one Tuesday at Riverside Park. I saw him right away \u2014 leather vest, heavy boots, dark sunglasses. Every mom\u2019s worst-case scenario. He sat quietly on a bench, sipping coffee. I instinctively pulled Lily closer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
