Parents of 10-year-old Autumn Bushman, a fourth-grader at Roanoke\u2019s Mountain View Elementary School, shared their heartbreak over their daughter\u2019s sudden passing and spoke of the events that led to the tragedy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark and Summer Bushman say they have noticed their daughter\u2019s behavior change weeks prior to her devastating decision to take her own life<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe was the youngest and probably the wildest,\u201d\u00a0Autumn\u2019s mother Summer said.\u00a0\u201cShe was a ball full of energy. It didn\u2019t matter if you thought she was going to fall through my living room floor. She was at it with the cartwheels inside of my house at all times.\u201d

The Bushman family told <\/em>that Autumn stared sleeping more, smiled less, and wore clothes darker in color than usual in the weeks preceding the tragedy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her obituary said she was a child who had \u201cdeep empathy, was soft-hearted, and always ready to lend a listening ear or offer support.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sadly, Autumn was a victim of b******g. Her parents allegedly knew about the ordeal their daughter was going through and reported it to the school, but the school didn\u2019t take much action

Students at the school harassed Autumn because she always stood up for others and didn\u2019t stay silent when something felt wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe was one if somebody was getting b*****d or picked on, she would stand up for them. And unfortunately, that may have made her a target for more b******g,\u201d\u00a0Summer Bushman said.

Sadly, Autumn wasn\u2019t only target while at school, but through the social media too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is an age where they have tablets and they have phones, so it\u2019s happening around the clock. They can\u2019t really escape,\u201d her dad\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement to WDBJ<\/em>, the Roanoke County Public Schools described Autumn\u2019s death as a \u201ctragic loss\u201d and said that they would \u201cstand in support of the family, friends, and Mountain View community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhile we cannot discuss the specifics of this situation due to federal privacy laws and out of respect for the family, we are conducting a thorough review. Our schools take all reports of bullying and conflicts among students very seriously\u201d, the statement\u00a0

\u201cOur schools educate students and respond appropriately to specific situations when we are made aware, including working with parents and families of students involved.\u201d

Autumn\u2019s mom is urging other parents out there to act if they notice anything unusual about their children\u2019s behavior in order to stop tragedies like this from taking place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGo through your child\u2019s cell phone to make sure that they are being kind to other children [and] to make sure children are being kind to them,\u201d she said.
