Steve Walton was irritated when his butler told him Pastor Morris was visiting. Fresh back from a lengthy trip to Singapore, Steve wasn\u2019t in the mood to deal with the pastor\u2019s usual appeals for help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He had the pastor brought in and waved him toward a seat impatiently. \u201cGet straight to the point,\u201d he barked. \u201cWhat do you want this time?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMr. Walton, I\u2019ve seen Susan,\u201d the pastor said quietly, causing Steve\u2019s heart to nearly stop. His only daughter had left home nearly fifteen years ago, and Steve hadn\u2019t heard from her since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSusan?\u201d Steve gasped. \u201cWhere? When? How is she?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was in Los Angeles, assisting a friend with a homeless outreach,\u201d the pastor explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWas she volunteering?\u201d Steve asked, hopeful. \u201cDid you tell her I\u2019ve been searching for her?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steve\u2019s anger flared. After all these years, Susan was still defying him! He recalled the day in his office when he had yelled at her. \u201cPregnant at sixteen and with the gardener!\u201d he had shouted. \u201cWe\u2019ll handle that\u2014and he\u2019s fired! \u201cThat\u2019s my baby, Dad,\u201d Susan had replied with a trembling voice. \u201cI love him. I\u2019m going to marry him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf you marry him, you\u2019re on your own!\u201d Steve had screamed. \u201cNo more money! You\u2019re out of this house!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With tears in her eyes, Susan said, \u201cI love you, Dad,\u201d then walked away. Despite hiring detectives, Steve never found her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHow many children does she have?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFour,\u201d Pastor Morris said. \u201cThree daughters and one son. Beautiful kids.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steve grabbed his phone and ordered his private jet ready. \u201cPastor, will you come with me to Los Angeles? Help me find my daughter?\u201d he asked quietly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pastor agreed, and two hours later, they were aboard Steve\u2019s jet flying south. Upon arrival, a limousine was waiting, and the pastor directed the driver to a large mall parking lot. At the far end, they spotted a pickup truck with a tent set up in the back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pastor Morris explained that after Susan\u2019s husband died in an accident, the insurance company refused to pay, and the bank repossessed their house. Susan had packed her children and their belongings into the truck. She now worked as a cleaner at the mall, using its restrooms and buying leftover food from restaurants. Despite everything, she kept her children fed, clean, and in school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As they neared the truck, they heard laughter and cheerful voices. Two kids ran out\u2014a teenage girl laughing as she tickled a young boy around seven years old. The children froze when they saw Steve and the pastor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMom!\u201d the girl called. \u201cThat preacher friend of yours is here!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A voice came from inside the tent. \u201cPastor Morris?\u201d Susan appeared, stunned to see her father beside the pastor. \u201cDad?\u201d she whispered, tears in her eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steve was taken aback. His daughter, just thirty-one, looked years older. Her face showed signs of hardship, and her hands bore the marks of hard work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSusan,\u201d Steve said, choking up, \u201clook at what you\u2019ve been through! I wanted so much better for you! And you married that man! What did he give you but poverty?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Susan shook her head. \u201cHe loved me, Dad. He gave me four wonderful children. When he died, I had nowhere else to turn, but I\u2019ve done my best for them. I love him, just as I\u2019ve always loved you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tears rolled down Steve\u2019s cheeks. \u201cForgive me, Susan,\u201d he sobbed. \u201cPlease come home. Let me help you and the children.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He embraced his daughter as she wept. Susan introduced her three granddaughters and placed a hand on the boy\u2019s shoulder. \u201cThis is little Stevie,\u201d she smiled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou named him after me?\u201d Steve asked, surprised. \u201cAfter everything?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI love you, Dad,\u201d she said softly. \u201cAlways have.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
