While he built a steady career over decades, younger audiences especially remember him as the warm, caring dad to Hilary Duff\u2019s character on Disney Channel\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Lizzie McGuire<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Duff paid tribute on Instagram, writing: \u201cThis one hurts. It\u2019s really hard to face this reality about an old friend. There was so much warmth in the McGuire family, and I always felt so cared for by my on-screen parents. I\u2019ll be forever grateful for that.
