Ozzy Osbourne, 76, Speaks Candidly About How He Wants to Be Remembered

Even when planning his own farewell, legendary rocker Ozzy Osbourne made sure to keep things unexpected—a celebration marked by music, humor, and a few signature surprises. Before his passing on July 21, 2025, the beloved “Prince of Darkness” made one thing clear: he didn’t want a somber send-off. He wanted joy, laughter, and above all, a reminder that even life’s final chapter could be met with a grin.

Throughout his career, Ozzy often joked about what he envisioned for his own funeral. In various interviews, he imagined everything from Beatles classics like A Day in the Life to quirky mashups featuring unlikely artists. His mission? To steer far away from what he called a “mope-fest.” In true Ozzy fashion, he even toyed with the idea of a pre-recorded video, cracking jokes from beyond the grave and requesting “a second opinion” after the casket closed—proof that his wit was just as enduring as his music.

Back in a 2011 interview with The Times, Ozzy said he hoped his funeral would celebrate gratitude, not grief. “We’re very lucky,” he said of his life in music, explaining that he wanted people to leave his funeral smiling. He reiterated that wish in a 2016 NME article, sharing his dream playlist—not of his own songs, but tracks from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Revolver. “I never play my own stuff,” he confessed. For Ozzy, The Beatles had always been the true soundtrack of his life.
