A newly identified asteroid—officially named 52768 (1998 OR2)—is set to pass through Earth’s orbital path, though experts confirm there is no real threat of impact. However, in the unlikely event of a collision, scientific studies suggest it could cause catastrophic damage to the planet.

NASA’s Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) recently flagged an unusually large asteroid expected to pass by Earth in April 2025. According to NASA’s website, the asteroid measures between 1.5 and 4 kilometers in diameter and is moving at a speed of 8.7 kilometers per second. It is projected to make its closest approach to Earth on May 29, 2025.
