Miriam Rodríguez: A Mother’s Relentless Pursuit of Justice in Mexico
Miriam Elizabeth Rodríguez Martínez, from San Fernando in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, emerged as one of the country’s most fearless voices for the families of the disappeared—after enduring an unthinkable personal loss. In 2012, her daughter, Karen Alejandra Salinas Rodríguez, was kidnapped by members of Los Zetas, one of Mexico’s most violent and notorious cartels.
The family paid a ransom, desperately hoping it would bring Karen home. But their hopes were shattered. In 2014, Karen’s remains were found on an abandoned ranch. For many, the story would have ended in grief—but for Miriam, it marked the start of a bold and dangerous quest for justice.
