White Couple Welcomes Black Baby, Sparking Online Curiosity and Controversy

Rachel, a young mom from Tennessee, gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, Cash Jamal Buckman, on February 17. She works as a cashier at the Celina 52 Truck Stop, which shared a photo of Rachel and her fiancé Paul Buckman with the announcement:

“Congratulations to our cashier Rachel and her fiancé Paul Buckman on welcoming their baby Cash Jamal Buckman on Saturday at 6:18 pm.”

What drew attention online was that both Rachel and Paul are white, while their newborn son has dark skin.

As expected, some social media users left cruel comments, questioning the paternity of the child.

In response, the store posted a clarification:
“Yes, Paul is the father. Rachel carries African American ancestry, which can skip generations and result in a child born with darker skin. There’s also a chance of jaundice affecting skin tone. Please be kind.”

Despite the explanation, trolls continued to make jokes and accusations:

  • “Congratulations! He must look just like his dad… where is he?”
  • “Definitely needs a DNA test. Did they mix up the babies in the nursery?”
  • “Poor Paul… hopefully he realizes the truth soon.”

Fed up with the ongoing attacks, Rachel shared her ancestry test results to prove her African heritage. She wrote:
“For those claiming I don’t have Black ancestry, here are my DNA results! Paul IS the father of Lil Cash. Stop spreading lies about us.”

Her post served as both clarification and a defense against the online harassment the couple faced.
