Uncovered: Mysterious Inscriptions on Rifle and Bullets Used in Charlie Kirk Assassination

In the wake of the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk during a public event at Utah Valley University, investigators have reported that certain ammunition linked to the crime may have had engraving or markings with ideological messages. Below is a summary of what is confirmed, what remains unverified, and what authorities are investigating.

What Has Been Reported

  1. Weapon and Ammo Recovered
Authorities say they have recovered a .30-caliber bolt-action rifle, believed to be the firearm used in the shooting. It was reportedly found wrapped in a towel in a wooded area near the university.
  2. Engravings / Messages on Ammo
    • According to several sources, including an internal law enforcement bulletin, some unspent rounds of ammunition found in the rifle’s magazine had writing on them. These markings are reported to reference “transgender and anti-fascist ideology.” , officials have not confirmed all aspects of these reports. The engraving claims are still under investigation and have not been officially certified by agencies such as the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives).
  3. Unspent Cartridges & Spent Cartridge
Investigators found at least three unspent rounds in the magazine, as well as a spent cartridge chambered in the rifle. The unspent rounds are the ones reported to carry the engravings.

What Is Not Yet Confirmed

  • Identity of the Suspect: While surveillance footage and a person of interest have been described, no suspect has been formally identified or arrested in connection with the engraving claims.
  • Exact Wording & Intent: The precise messages engraved on the rounds have not been publicly released in detail, and investigators caution that reports may be preliminary and could be misinterpreted. It is not yet clear whether the inscriptions were meant as personal statements, misdirection, or possess other significance.
  • Confirmation by Forensic Experts: The engravings have not been confirmed by forensic labs, as part of the official evidence chain. These claims appear in memos and internal sources, but verification (e.g. by ATF or FBI lab results) is pending.
