What the Student Who Spoke to Charlie Kirk Moments Before the Tragedy Revealed

The student who posed the final question to Charlie Kirk, moments before the conservative commentator was fatally shot at Utah Valley University, has spoken publicly for the first time.

Kirk’s passing has reverberated across the nation and beyond, following the tragic events of September 10 during his American Comeback Tour. The 31-year-old, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was struck by a single gunshot while addressing students and supporters. Authorities believe the fatal shot came from a rooftop near the campus venue.

In the aftermath, investigators arrested two individuals, but both were later released. The FBI has since shared surveillance footage showing a person jumping from a rooftop and fleeing the scene, while a rifle and ammunition were discovered in nearby woodland. The search for the shooter remains ongoing.

The Final Exchange

During the rally, Kirk was answering a question about mass shootings when the attack occurred. Hunter Kozak, a Utah Valley University student, asked about the number of transgender Americans involved in mass shootings over the past decade. Kirk responded firmly, “Too many,” drawing applause from the crowd. When Kozak pressed for a broader comparison, Kirk began to answer, “Counting or not counting gang violence?”—his final words before the shot was fired.
