The Harris County Sheriff’s Office in Texas is grappling with an unprecedented wave of grief after four deputies died by suicide within just six weeks. The sudden losses have left colleagues, friends, and the community deeply shaken.

Remembering the Fallen

On March 19, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez shared the heartbreaking news of retired Deputy William Bozeman’s passing. Initially reported as the third loss in a single week, it later became clear that Bozeman was actually the fourth deputy lost in this tragic streak.

“Our hearts are heavy,” Gonzalez wrote on social media. “We extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues affected. Life is fragile, and time is never promised. May they Rest in Peace.”

Earlier in March, the department mourned the deaths of 37-year-old Deputy Christina Kohler and 42-year-old former Deputy Maria Vasquez. Each loss has been felt profoundly across the law enforcement community. “Heaven has gained two beautiful angels,” the HCSO Community Engagement Division said on Facebook. “May their memory inspire strength and comfort to those they leave behind.”

The string of losses began on February 6 with the death of former Deputy Nguyen, 58, marking the start of this devastating pattern.
