The collision involved a high-performance BMW S1000 RR and a Renault Sandero, once again highlighting serious safety concerns on one of Brazil’s most scenic yet perilous roads.
Accident Details
According to the Military Highway Police (PMRv), the crash happened on a curved stretch of SC-390. Witnesses reported that the motorcyclist, traveling at high speed, crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the Sandero, driven by a 30-year-old woman. The impact was catastrophic, leaving the motorcycle completely wrecked and the rider critically injured. Despite prompt medical attention, the motorcyclist died shortly after arrival at a nearby hospital. Authorities have withheld his name to respect the family’s privacy.
The Sandero’s driver escaped without injuries. Breathalyzer tests confirmed alcohol was not involved. However, family members removed the Sandero from the scene before investigators could thoroughly examine it, complicating the crash investigation and evidence gathering.
Witnesses described the BMW motorcycle as “unrecognizable,” with debris scattered along the roadway. Valued between R$70,000 and R$150,000, the S1000 RR was utterly destroyed, reflecting the violent force of the collision.
