“Woman diagnosed with cancer — insists a popular sandwich caused it”

Lucie Morris‑Marr — an investigative journalist and author of Processed — was stunned when she was diagnosed with stage‑four bowel cancer, especially since she believed she was in the best shape of her life. At the time, she felt fit, healthy, and full of purpose.

“When you get a diagnosis like this… it’s still really shocking,” she told Nine to Noon.
“I was riding high — my book had just been published, I had festival invites and speaking engagements lined up. I felt excited and validated. And then everything was cancelled, and I felt like my identity had been erased.”

As she underwent treatment, Lucie began digging deeper into the causes of bowel cancer — and what she discovered horrified her. She found that the World Health Organization links processed meats to bowel cancer, placing them in the same carcinogenic category as tobacco and alcohol.

“All I kept coming across was processed meats and their link to bowel cancer,” she said.
