A recent U.S. military strike on Iranian nuclear facilities has reignited debate over presidential war powers—and it’s causing divisions within the Democratic Party.
Former President Donald Trump authorized the operation over the weekend, targeting nuclear enrichment sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. In a televised address, Trump called the mission a necessary defense against what he described as an “immediate nuclear threat.”
While many Republicans supported the strike, citing presidential authority on national security, progressive Democrats strongly opposed it. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez renewed calls for impeachment, accusing Trump of bypassing Congress and acting outside the Constitution. Her stance quickly gained support, especially among progressive circles online.
However, not all Democrats share this view. Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman rejected the impeachment effort outright. “This proposal is dead on arrival,” he told Fox News, emphasizing that impeachment should not be triggered by policy disagreements. “It shouldn’t be a knee-jerk reaction every time there’s a foreign policy dispute,” Fetterman said.
