Washington, D.C. — Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is sounding the alarm over what he sees as a “dangerous” surge in political hostility in the United States, cautioning that growing animosity toward former President Donald Trump could have consequences far beyond routine partisan clashes.
In a recent interview on Fox News, Gingrich accused Democrats of using “toxic language” and “extreme measures,” claiming that political discourse has shifted away from constructive debate and toward deepening division.
“There’s a radical faction that thinks intimidation and harassment are valid political tools,” Gingrich said. “That’s not how democracy works — that’s a recipe for chaos. The answer is clear: apply the law fairly to everyone.”
Now 81, Gingrich compared today’s political atmosphere to some of the nation’s most volatile periods, questioning whether a country “founded on liberty and committed to equality” can endure such internal turmoil.
Rising Partisan Strife
Gingrich’s remarks come at a time of intensifying political battles. Democrats continue to investigate Trump’s past actions in office, alleging abuses of power, while Republicans argue those efforts are politically motivated attempts to discredit him.
