Innocent Beach Day Turns Alarming as Kids Play on Unexploded WWII Bomb
What started as a carefree summer outing quickly turned into a chilling brush with history when a family in Wales unknowingly let their children play on what was later identified as an unexploded World War II bomb.
Gareth and Kelly Gravell had taken their young children—six-year-old Erin and four-year-old Ellis—to a beach near Burry Port in Carmarthenshire for a relaxing afternoon by the sea. While exploring, the kids stumbled upon a large, rusted object partially buried in the sand. Covered in seaweed and barnacles, it looked like an old buoy, and the family didn’t think twice about it.
Photos captured the children smiling and climbing on the object, while their parents watched—completely unaware of the hidden danger just beneath the surface.
It wasn’t until five days later that authorities cordoned off the beach and confirmed the shocking truth: the mysterious object was actually an unexploded sea mine from World War II.
