Sex is a natural and healthy part of human life, but it can also come with real physical, emotional, and social consequences—especially when protection and awareness are ignored. Many people only think about pregnancy when discussing sexual risks, but there are several other important health issues that can occur. Understanding the facts, rather than believing myths or misinformation online, helps people protect themselves and their partners.

One of the most serious physical consequences of unprotected sex is the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The conditions shown in the image above resemble symptoms that can occur with infections such as Herpes simplex, Human papillomavirus infection (HPV), Syphilis, or Molluscum contagiosum. These infections can cause visible symptoms like painful sores, blisters, rashes, or clusters of bumps around the mouth, genitals, thighs, or other parts of the body.
For example, herpes infections often appear as small painful blisters that can break open and form sores around the mouth or genital area. These outbreaks may come and go throughout a person’s life because the virus remains in the body even after symptoms disappear. Although treatments can help manage outbreaks and reduce discomfort, herpes currently has no permanent cure.
