A Heartbreaking Discovery in Texas Hill Country Leaves a Nation in Mourning
Tragedy struck during a family vacation in Hunt, Texas, when two young sisters, Blair and Brooke Harber—just 13 and 11 years old—were found together after flash floods swept through the region during an early-morning storm last Friday.
The Harber family had been staying in the quiet, gated Casa Bonita community when the severe weather hit around 3:30 a.m., part of a larger, historic flooding event that has caused widespread devastation across Texas.
According to a GoFundMe post by the girls’ aunt, Jennifer Harber, their father, RJ Harber, was jolted awake by the sound of pounding rain and rapidly rising floodwaters. In a heartbreaking moment, Brooke, the younger sister, sent a final message to her dad and grandparents: “I love you.”
RJ and his wife, Annie, immediately tried to reach their daughters, who were staying in a nearby cabin with their grandparents, Mike and Charlene Harber. After breaking a window to escape their own flooded cabin, the couple sought help from neighbors. But the fast-moving waters made it impossible to get to the second cabin in time. Emergency crews later rescued RJ, Annie, and several neighbors.
The sisters were found several hours later, downstream from where they were last seen. Their grandparents, Mike and Charlene, remain missing as search efforts continue.
