Authorities investigating the disappearance of an 8-year-old girl from Camp Mystic have uncovered a new clue that has only deepened the mystery.
A blonde hair bun was recently found tangled in brush along the riverbank—the very area where the girl was last seen. At first, the discovery offered a glimmer of hope. The hair matched the girl’s description: golden-blonde, tied in a messy bun, just as she wore it the day she vanished.
But DNA testing delivered an unexpected twist. The hair didn’t belong to the missing girl—it belonged to her best friend, one of the 27 campers already located and confirmed safe.
The revelation has shifted the investigation’s focus and raised troubling new questions.
Was the friend back at the riverbank after the search had ended? Did the missing girl have her friend’s hair tie or a keepsake? Or was the hair left there intentionally—to mislead the search, or send a message?
The answers remain unclear, but investigators say the case has taken a new and more complex turn.
