around 38 minutes underwater before anyone noticed he had sunk to the bottom of the pool, according to official reports.

The coroner’s report, released Monday, called for a thorough review and reform of school swim instruction protocols following the death of eighth-grader Blessing Claude Moukoko in February, as reported by the Montreal Gazette.

On February 15, Moukoko was taking part in a mandatory swimming lesson at Montreal’s Centre Père-Marquette when he apparently slipped beneath the surface in the deep end and went unnoticed. It wasn’t until after the physical education class ended that classmates realized he was missing and found his submerged body, officials stated.
