Authorities have named 22-year-old Tyler Robinson of Utah as the suspected gunman in the fatal shooting of conservative commentator and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk.
The announcement follows an extensive manhunt for the individual believed to have opened fire during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University, resulting in Kirk’s death.
Around 3,000 attendees had gathered for the event when, approximately 20 minutes in, a single gunshot rang out. Panic quickly spread as the crowd scrambled for safety. Kirk, 31, was struck in the neck and transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 90 minutes later.
In the aftermath, law enforcement launched a coordinated investigation involving both local police and the FBI. Surveillance footage released by federal agents showed a figure fleeing from a rooftop close to the scene. Authorities later recovered a rifle and ammunition in a wooded area nearby.
Tyler Robinson was reportedly apprehended Thursday evening near St. George, Utah. According to reports, a relative recognized him and brought him to authorities. Sources indicate that both Robinson’s father and a U.S. marshal played key roles in facilitating the arrest.
Former President Donald Trump addressed the development during a Fox News appearance, stressing the importance of accountability.
“I hope he’s convicted and receives the death penalty,” Trump said. “Charlie Kirk was an incredible individual. He didn’t deserve this.”
